Thanks for EVERYONE’S SUPPORT!!!!

I want to thank every one of you for your support and real effort expended in my behalf

As a coach in 250 varsity games,I know that sometimes you lose because the other team is better, but other losses (when you should have won and didn’t) don’t go away quickly

Late into the night, I asked myself the same critical questions I ask myself after every loss:

What did I do to contribute to the loss and what should I have done differently?

Should I have dialed back on  who I am,taken back what I had written on the blog , resigned from coaching, held back in the debates?

The answer comes from my favorite movie-Hoosiers

“I apologize for nothing”

I said I was a liberal and I am
(At least light blue)

I said I supported the teachers and I do

I said we have a world class superintendant and we do

I said I was the best person for the job and I was

I said I was someone who could have restored the morale in the district and I could have done that

And I had all of you behind me-people concerned about the education of our kids and willing to go through snow and sleet to
Make that happen

And I lost

And I can’t help but feel I let a lot of people down

In basketball,my team gets all the wins and I get all the loses

So team, thank you for an exceptional winning effort

You were magnificent, and the ball just didn’t drop and the end

You are in my thoughts

I think of the words of another chubby liberal

“The fight goes on,
And the dream never dies”

Mark

Previous School Board Prez, Charlie Hillman, endorses Mark Maley for School Board

Regardless of the outcome in Madison, it is clear that our local schools will be dealing with difficult financial times. While ideology is the essence of legislative matters, what we desperately need locally is the competence to get the very best educational bang for our buck. That is why I’m supporting Mark Maley for School Board. Mark is a hard-nosed, self-made man, with street smarts and common sense garnered from years of building and running a small business. He is in the building supplies field, which as you can imagine, has faced some very tough times the past few years. And yet, his business has survived and even thrived with sacrifice and old-fashioned hard work. This is the kind of thinking we need on the School Board. This is the kind of man we need on the School Board. Mark also has a wonderful sense of humor, which helps him to relate to a wide variety of people and opinions. He is intelligent, honest, diligent, and respectful of others. I urge my fellow citizens to vote for Mark Maley for School Board. Charlie Hillman Town of Trenton

Mark Maley writes a letter to the WB Daily News

Publication:West Bend Daily News; Date:Mar 15, 2011; Section:Opinion; Page Number:A6

Answer: Good teachers

I am asking for your vote in the most important school board election in our district’s history.

Today, our community is often asked to demonize one group over the next in a never-ending game of “us versus them.”

Our teachers are the latest to be tarred with this brush.

Wisconsin folks are smart. They can hold two seemingly contradictory opinions at once and believe them to simultaneously be true.

    1. We believe our teachers do a very good job educating our kids.

    2. We believe the teachers’ union has bargained the teachers into an unsustainable package of wages and benefits in the current economic climate.

Teachers are not the problem. Good teachers are the answer to many of the problems our children face.

Your next School Board will need to motivate its employees and re-engineer the compensation system for teachers based on merit while letting others go due to a lack of merit.

The needed skill set is unique and I have it.

People making the decisions need a track record in making short and long term decisions based upon facts, not ideology.

I come from nothing. An athletic scholarship lifted me out of an alcoholic family situation. Hard work and a great education gave me my chance to succeed. Every student deserves this same chance for success.

I’ve hired and fired in my businesses, searched for insurance coverage and run a church, a service non-profit and the West Bend Schools Foundation as board president.

I offer communication skills, balance, business acumen and assertiveness coupled with a willingness to listen to both sides of an argument.

This election is about competence, leadership and character.

I ask for your vote: No. 2 on the ballot and No. 1 in getting things done.

Conservatives & Liberals agree on one thing: Mark Maley is the right choice for WB School Board

In our family, we have a conservative commercial real estate appraiser, a liberal teacher and two nonpartisan school-aged offspring. We think that our dog is Green Party. What do we all agree on?

We all want Mark Maley for our West Bend School Board.

We need a board member who cares about kids. The appraiser in the family is interested in a School Board member who uses all the facts to make fair and balanced programming decisions. The teacher in the family wants a passionate School Board member who can model traits she expects in her students: tolerance, respect and integrity. The children in the family want a School Board member who is willing to run up and down the halls of Barton to read Dr. Seuss to elementary-schoolers on Dr. Seuss’s birthday and someone who smiles during meetings.

We need a budget problem-solver. The appraiser in the family wants a board member to balance the budget and help set up a process to avoid these shortfalls in the future. The teacher in the family wants an open-minded, experienced and intelligent board member to think creatively for budget solutions. The children in the family want someone who values music, athletics and world languages.

We all want Mark Maley for School Board.

His agenda is simply the success of our district. He is a basketball coach, West Bend Public Schools Foundation president, classroom guest speaker and district volunteer. Let’s put him on the School Board, too.

Please exercise your right to vote April 5.

Coach Mark Maley endorsed by previous basketball player Lindsay Watry

To implement change in the life of another, commitment, honesty, integrity and perseverance are essential. Mark Maley has these qualities which have helped to produce strong individuals.

As a player, I learned more than just basketball skills; I learned life lessons about hard work and integrity that have carried me through to today. I respected him for not only his ability to lead us through ups and downs, but how he led by example.

His outlook for our future was always in the forefront of his mind, attempting to show us we could carry over our hard work and determination to get us through college and beyond. School always came first without any penalty; our future was the most important to him.

After graduation, his encouragement and interest showed he was always there for us. He helped to build confidence and self worth through strong, moral character.

In coaching with him today, his methods have not faltered. The same deep concern for each and every player, the coaching staff and those in the community is ever present.

He is a person I’m striving to be more like; always doing the right thing. Basketball is just the mask that hides the true impact that Mr. Maley has on youth; giving them the push they need to make something of themselves while being the first brick we can all build on.

He has, without a doubt, my vote to improve the future of this community.

Lynsey Watry town of Trenton Whole family agrees on Maley
